Blessings Not Disguised

This past week was a doozie! I was sick twice (or maybe once, with a brief respite in the middle) and had a sick child for part of the week. There were the usual hassles to deal with, plus school fundraising and extensive discipline problems brought on by lack of sleep and illness. There was more than one day that I wanted to pull the covers over my head and just pretend the rest of the world didn't exist. In fact, I indulged in that desire a time or two, which simply put me even further behind, which started the cycle all over again. (But at least I didn't have to have surgery like PC, although the drugs would have been nice!)

In the midst of it all, my poor husband worked all week at his very physical job in over 100 degree weather. I know he must have been exhausted himself. Yet he still came home and helped me out. The first night I ran a fever, he walked in the door, sent me to my room, and put the kids to bed all by himself. He got a sitter (this is almost unheard of) and asked me out to dinner one night. He didn't complain when I fell asleep on the couch before 10pm, but woke me up and helped me to bed. Plus his attitude in general was helpful and conscientious, which meant more to me because of the week I knew he was having.

Growing up in church, we always called this "a blessing". My husband was a big blessing to me. Or should I say, he blessed me over and over again this week. Actually, that sounds a little dirty, but there was certainly not much of that going on around here with the way I was feeling. I know, TMI. :)

I've actually been blessed throughout my 11 years of marriage by my husband of choice, the man I know God meant for me to be with. I could make a whole blog out of that topic alone. But I guess my point is that, despite the way my life went this past week, and the fact that I probably wasn't the prettiest sight or personality to deal with after a long day, he went out of his way to do some nice, thoughtful, helpful things for me. I appreciate that.

So let's start the week off right by counting our blessings. Who has blessed your life this week?

Angel, it's wonderful that your dh helped you out this week. (And I hope you're feeling better.)

As for blessings, I've found myself particularly thankful that my kids/family are healthy. (I've been praying for a 13-yr-old boy this week with a deadly staff infection and the doctor's have pretty much given up hope. He's in UAB, btw. He could use a miracle, so that's what I've been praying for, particularly as I look at my 14-year-old boy and thank God for his health.)

I will be praying for that young boy. Let's all hope for a miracle.

I am blessed with good friends and family. We have a roof over our heads and jobs.

Angel, that's so sweet. Rhonda, I will remember this boy in a prayer and count my own blessings this morning.

The Playfriends are always a blessing to me. I'd reached a "fish or cut bait" point with writing and had just about decided not to renew my RWA membership when they approached me with the idea of the Playground. We're not in competition here, but they gave me a goal to shoot for.

My family is a blessing too. My husband is supportive, my kids are grown and productive, I have a wonderful daughter-in-law and I have the grandbaby to watch grow up now. And boy is she a cutie pie.

Will keep that boy and his family in my prayers, Rhonda.

I'll have to get all 'world peace' on y'all and say the Playfriends are my blessing. DB has his days. :)

A friend's husband shot himself in the head with a shotgun last week. I couldn't imagine finding DB that way. It makes me really appreciate all the small things in my life that make it great.

The playfriends are a huge blessing to me! My husband is unbelievably supportive but there's only so much he can do or say. Only other writers can truly understand the complications, fears and self doubt that we sometimes go through.

I'll be keeping the boy and the family of your friend in my prayers.

I'm feeling really lucky and loved right now. Having friends and family rally 'round when you're couch bound (even if it's a minor, scheduled operation) made me feel a bit "you like me! You really like me!".

I have a dear friend who is going through an ugly ugly divorce right now, and it makes me very thankful for my DG. (I'm also thankful she has a really good divorce attorney!)

Rhonda, I'll pray for that boy. How terrible.

I have much to be thankful for. Family, friends, health and so so much more.

I'm sorry to hear you've been sick, Angel, but glad to hear that you've had an angel of your own to look after you. :-)

Rhonda, I'm praying for this young boy and his family. May God be a blessing to him, supplying all his needs.
