I'm all about dark horses and comeback stories. Some of my favorite movies are Rudy, Friday Night Lights, Remember the Titans and We Are Marshall. Nothing warms the cockles of my heart more than hidden talent being given a chance to shine and people overcoming difficulties to succeed.
I'm sure some of you watch reality TV including American Idol and America's Got Talent. Both these shows are spin-offs from British shows and Britain's Got Talent just kicked off their season. When Susan Boyle walked onstage the judges and audience appeared to dismiss her. Simon Cowell delivered his usual eye-roll and sneer. But...

I am ashamed to say I rather expected a female British version of William Hung or some other horribly awful wannabe singer. But when she began to sing, I sat in front of my computer and my jaw literally dropped. She's amazing, and I've no doubt she'll go far in this competition. I've watched this clip at least five times a day since I first saw it on Monday. Of course, I'll have to follow Susan's progress on the online news sites and YouTube.

That's my favorite song from Le Miz, and she did a wonderful job. The situation very much reminded me of Paul Potts a few years ago, who went on to win "Britain's Got Talent." You can still find his audition on YouTube.
I enjoy movies with comeback story lines. Reality TV no thank you. Sorry, I've decided to give up TV for a while. So far, it is working out great.

Oh yay! Caroline can keep us up to date on Susan's progress. And yes, Simon Cowell's reaction was priceless. Piers did his share of sneering as well and had to share that crow too.
I've seen Paul Potts's audition on You Tube. He's another great comeback story. And he was competing against the cutest little six-year-old. I think everyone thought Connie Talbot would win.
We've given up TV but not voluntarily. The big TV went on the fritz and they can't come get it til Friday. I can see the DVR recording, but we can't watch the shows til the unit is repaired. Bummer.
I can't watch the video at the moment, but I just love the idea of the underdog triumphing. Maybe I watched Mighty Ducks too many times as a kid. I always root for the one least likely to win. That's why I was shocked to find my4 favorite NFL teams in the playoffs last year. A miracle! Of course, in the end... the Steelers won. Big shock. I much would've preferred the Cardinals to win in the big Hollywood type ending.
The big Hollywood win is great, but the lesson is in the journey. I mean, didn't you expect Billy Bob Thornton's team to win in Friday Night Lights? I love his speech about perfection: Being perfect is not about that scoreboard out there. It's not about winning. It's about you and your relationship with yourself, your family and your friends. Being perfect is about being able to look your friends in the eye and know that you didnt let them down because you told them the truth. And that truth is you did everything you could. There wasnt one more thing you could've done. Can you live in that moment as best you can, with clear eyes, and love in your heart, with joy in your heart? If you can do that gentleman - you're perfect!

Yes, I've always been an underdog kind of gal. More than anything I love to see someone rise to their full potential, which is incredibly inspiring and empowering.

I must have seen this a dozen times since it hit the web a couple of days ago. Simply stunning! Makes me cry every time. Funny enough, I actually watched it before I popped over here today. :) And things are a bit blurry, LOL.
I love underdog and comeback stories. Loved Paul Potts's story when he came out -- and bought his debut. The man sings so purely -- gorgeous. Susan Boyle will do fine, and I'll be buying her first CD as well.
I just simply love it when someone who isn't primped, pampered, or our idea of what we think beauty is supposed to be (because it's crammed down our throats in magazines, movies, etc) displays such amazing artistic beauty. You absolutely cannot judge a book by its cover. Love it.

Hollywood DOES want to set the standard for what's attractive. And these folks with such brilliant talent just blow all that aside. Andrea Bocelli is another good example. I wonder how many folks dismissed the little blind boy until he opened his mouth?

I just want to pipe in again and say, oops, those weren't her sons. I've been reading up about Susan Boyle and she's an amazing story of inspiration. She has never married, cared for parents till each passed away and is learning disabled due to oxygen starvation at birth. She had a dream: to sing in front of a huge audience and she accomplished it. And WOW!! I am rooting for this woman. Makes our dreams seem attainable as long as we keep "getting on stage and singing!"
