Land of Confusion

There seems to be a recurring theme on the playground of late - we're all losing our minds. Slowly, of course - missing sunglasses here, forgotten heroine name there...but surely, our brain cells are vanishing. Given that two of us are in the process of moving and selling/buying homes, one is severely immuno-challenged and one of us is in charge a stressful upcoming event, it's no wonder. I, for one, forgot to write this blog until late at night - a task I normally do earlier in the afternoon so I can think about it. I came into my office to check my email and shut down my computer for the night and realized I hadn't done it yet.

So here we are. I spent my evening watching episodes of Ace of Cakes and packing up seldom worn shoes instead of writing my blog like a good girl. And now, on cue, I need to come up with something to talk about. Ok, here we go...wait for it...

Nothing. I think at this point, I'm lucky to remember to brush my teeth and wear matching socks. Wittiness? Not so much. Heck, I just remembered that I promised a prize for a blog poster two weeks ago. Just a little behind. Probably won't mail it until May even if I did give something away. Good thing I wasn't a big druggie in college or what little brain cells I have left would be kaput. And now I'm sleepy cause its late, so my problem is compounding as the minutes tick by. I need to end this post before I start babbling.

When your brain is completely overloaded, what do you do to upgrade the system so to speak? Any good memory tricks? I lose my keys on a good day. Lately...well...lets just say we could all use some good advice to recharge the old noggin.

A place for everything and everything in its place.

I try to do this at least with my car keys, purse and glasses.

Use this move as a good opportunity to weed out what's unnecessary and to set up specific places in the new house for things. Put a new key rack in a spot that's accessible and keep your keys there. Designate a spot for your purse. If you're going to have an office in the new house, make sure you always put your stuff in your office.

I still lose things, but I can always find my purse, keys, cell phone and glasses.

Funny you should say this, PM, because that's exactly what I've been doing. While I've been wading through and pricing a whole garage full of stuff, I've been mentally planning the "homes" for stuff in my house.

Luckily I'll actually have some real closets in the new house, instead of the miniatures I have here. And getting rid of the stuff that doesn't have a home has been time consuming, but worth it.

Tomorrow I'm having a yard sale of stuff from my house, my in-laws, even my sister is bringing stuff. And what doesn't sell, I've arranged for the rescue misssion to pick up on Tuesday.

But I am finding that by nighttime I'm totally exhausted and just want to veg. I should have spent another 2 hours pricing last night, but I didn't. I stared at the TV and went to sleep. Fun, fun. But I feel pretty good this morning after the full 8 hours I had last night. Yay!

Y'all never listen to me. :-)

Meditation. When you get stressed, you get scattered. At least, I do. Even if you're not big on meditating, a few minutes a day of sitting down and breathing deep will work wonders. I have at times been frantically searching the house for something (yes, PM's suggestion of a place for everything is fine, but it has never worked for me -- sadly) when I stopped, sat, took those deep breaths, and then rememebered if not where I put something at least where I last saw it. That will usually get me into the right room.

Basically stopping for those deep breaths is just a very small way of taking care of yourself when stress starts to take over. Next time you get all wound up, pay attention to how you breathe. You'll probably find yourself holding your breath now and then.

I listen to you LJ (sucks up).

I know I should spend more time meditating, but that doesn't happen as much as I'd like it to. But, I have found that just taking a minute or two to close my eyes and take a few deep breaths--concentrating only on the breaths--I feel a lot better.

And since this luncheon seems pretty well put together, maybe I should quit stressing over it so much.

It's not that we don't listen, I think its like exercise - the one thing we really need is the first thing pushed out when we get stressed. I need to meditate more except the only time I get any peace anymore is when I'm driving. And as Sylvia reminds us, you can't meditate in a car. :)

I keep falling one step shy of the meditation...but I do deep breathe and it really works!! For a minute concentrate on simply breathing, make that your focus. And my house is usually a wreck -- but even I have one designated place for my keys -- which only took me years of looking for the ding-dang things to figure out that a designated spot would save me a whole bunch of time. ;-)

You know, there are some advantages to having a husband who is borderline OCD. Everything is usally in it's place even if I didn't put it there. Unfortunately, DH's idea of where the 'place' is and my idea are often different :-)

I know I should meditate more - just like exercise. My goal in May is to make that my focus. 15 minutes each day for both won't take much out of my day. It's just getting into the habit that's hard.

I really need to try this meditation thing. (I almost typed medicatoin, so I'm wondering if that's really what I need> :-)

Like Instigator, finding the time to exercise is what's getting me. I've *got* to start. Ugh...

A small victory, but I'll have everyone know I found my sunglasses. I'm currently on backup pair #2 having lost my original pair and leaving backup pair #2 in LJ's car last weekend. But, after digging through the junk on the floor of my backseat, I've found the first pair! Woo hoo! I really loved those glasses and they've been missing for weeks. My brain is still fuzzy otherwise, but its a start...

SP, you don't happen to know where my sunglasses are, do you?

I'll look in my backseat. Jimmy Hoffa could be back there and I wouldn't know it...
