Return of that Lovin' Feeling

Once again this week I’m in the midst of visiting family for the holidays. I had my mom and her crew for Thanksgiving. Now I have my Dad, brother, and one of my sisters for an early Christmas celebration. Between this and preparing for parties, I’m sick and tired of cleaning my house. :)

This week will go by fast, what with our visitors, Christmas Eve baking, my husband’s family Christmas Eve celebration, then Christmas day. So much to do in such a short amount of time. But I have to admit, I’m kinda looking forward to it being done. Not that I want to speed through it, but I’m anticipating what is coming after the last present is unwrapped and everyone has gone home.

I’m going back to writing.

After NaNo, I knew I’d have a lot of other things to catch up on, plus be a little burnt out. And that was true. I needed a few weeks to refill my well, let other stories creep into my head, and devour the To Be Read pile in my bedroom. All of which I have done. But I’ve noticed something. A month without writing is a touch too long for me. I’m getting antsy and finding it hard to settle down to the pastimes I had so looked forward to. A low level depression is setting in, which tells me it is time to get back to the creative drive.

I’ll sit down and plan out a loose schedule for next year, getting my writing priorities in order (more on this next week) and start working a little at a time. I won’t be able to dive in good until the kids are back to school on January 6th (whose idea was it to have such a long holiday????). But I’m looking forward to it and that’s a good thing.

What do your next few days look like? What are you anticipating the most? How do you know it is time to return to writing or your other creative pursuits?

I had #1 & #2 sons, DIL and BabyGrand here for the weekend. It was fantastic. We took BabyGrand to see Santa and today we opened gifts from them. We'll do the rest of gifts on Christmas. I suppose I need to figure out what to cook for Christmas dinner. We had ham today. #1 son and BabyGrand might come back for a bit after Christmas. DIL started a new job in April and doesn't have much leave. :-(

I know I need to get back to writing, but have been sidetracked by two other writing assignments. Once I get them finished, my brain can concentrate on the book again -- maybe even sometime this week. Keep your fingers crossed.

Well, I have to work the next three days, so that sucks, but there isn't any work to do, so happily, I'll be working hard at finding the end of the internet.

After Wednesday, I'm off until the 5th. DB works Christmas, so I'll go to my moms, then we'll go his parents the weekend after. I have no idea what I'm going to be doing after the 27th.

I usually get sick, but NOT THIS YEAR. I'm throwing that out into the cosmos. I will not get sick this year. I will be healthy and productive after Christmas is over, by damn.

I'm already sick so...

I'm working today and tomorrow, after that I'm off for 5 whole days and I plan on spending them with my family :-)

I've already hosted one holiday party for my husband's crew. I have people coming over Christmas Eve. On the 27th we head to Nashville and spend the night as we are seeing the Rockettes Show. On NYE we have a gathering of BRAC orphans here for potluck, games and possibly sleeping over.

I am giving myself the goal of 1/2 an hour a day of writing except on the 25th, 27th, 28th, and January 1st. I am like you Angel, a month off is too long, but trying to be uber productive is also too distracting from enjoying this family time. I like the half an hour minimum or 100 words a day goal. Best of both worlds!

I don't mind the two weeks off. I am exhausted from our move and taking my daughter to school everyday. I need some rest -- or a pep me up pill.

I am putting together my goals for the New Year. One thing I am pondering is the BIAW course, but I am unsure if I can handle that, plus finishing the MS and polishing it--I'll make that decision by the end of the month after I see how much writing I accomplish. The BIAW course starts January 5th.

I want to get more accomplished next year now that I am settled in the house and the move is behind me.

Well, the next two weeks are going to be very busy, but that's to be expected. But then I start off January with two weeks of Jury Duty...ugh. I just hope to be back up and running by the end of Jan. :-)

The time off will probably be good for my brain.

This is the first year in a long time I'll get to spend time at Christmas with both my brother and sister. My sister always comes in after I leave and with my brother's acting jobs, he doesn't always make it home. We will have Christmas on Friday and Saturday with them and I can't wait!

Liza, that sounds great to be able to be with your family over Christmas. Especially when it is a rare thing.

Christine, enjoy a little rest. I can't believe you are still getting writing done after a move. It took me 2 months to get back on the wagon after just moving 5 miles away.

I'm trying to get everyone settled for the night right now. We've made 2 batches of divinity, visited my sister for a few hours, gone to the Galaxy of lights and dinner out. I'm tired, but happy.
