Let's Hit the Road!
This past weekend, my sister and I went on an impromptu road trip.
Now, for those of you who haven't been with us for long, let me explain a few things. First, neither my sister nor I are "impromptu" people. We're planners all the way. Second, we both had kids this weekend. Third, weekends are extremely precious time at the moment, so giving up one day is hard. Fourth… did I mention we don't usually do "spur of the moment"?
Anyway, the call came from my sister mid-Sunday morning. "Want to make a trip to Nashville today? Our blog buddy is coming through and we could meet her." Awesome!!! She seems like a totally cool person, and this might be our only chance. When? "Um, I'll be at your house in 30 minutes or so…" Alrighty then…
Threw the kids together, changed out of my comfortable "Sunday at home" clothes, and we were out the door. And we all had a really good time! The kids enjoyed a trip to the Cool Springs Galleria, because we let them buy stuff. Sis and I had a great time having lunch with our cyber friend and meeting her IRL. And she's just as cool as she is on the web.
So maybe I should do this "seat of your pants" thing more often… aw, who am I kidding? When was the last time you did anything at the spur of the moment? How did it turn out?

Last summer I called a friend and asked if she wanted to go to Ethridge, Tennessee to the Amish Country. And did she want to go in about an hour. She did and we went and we had a great time. I honestly think the impromptu trips are often the best because you don't have time to worry about things. You just enjoy. Glad your trip went well and you got to meet your online friend.
Spur of the moment? I'll have to think on that.
I am not comfortable with that at all. I'm too much of a planner. I don't require a ton of notice, but I do need some. Oddly enough, I'm much more likely to hop on a plane to Hawaii or Paris because you call with a timeshare you've got to use than I am to drive to Atlanta for the weekend. I guess if its something I'm excited to do, my 'what ifs' aren't quite so loud.
I can only do day trips (too many animals to pick up and just leave) but I am definitely for taking a trip at the spur of the moment. Only problem is - you have to wait for me to fix my hair and put on make-up. The last spur of the moment trip was to Chickamauga with hubby and sis. We had a great time tramping through the woods and reading battle signs (only sis and hubby got lost - they always get lost). LOL!
Glad you had a good time!
Yeah, we did have to do the hair thing, Cheryl! :) And despite my chronic -- genetic, I firmly believe -- lateness, Angel and I still made it up there in plenty of time. It was fun to do, and a bit dismaying to realize we'd never really done something like that before.
Great day!
You know, the older I get the less spontaneous I get. Or maybe it's just that the older I get the more enamored of staying in my own little environment I get. But I do miss those moments of discovery...just not enough to get my rear end up of the couch. :-)
Glad y'all had a great time!
