The Time Had Come

I've been driving the same car for about ten years - a 2000 Ford Focus. Actually, it would be ten years on December 15, 2010, so just a little short. I bought that car after my new one was rearended and totalled out by a stolen car with no insurance on October 28, 2000. Funny that I would remember the date, even a decade later.

Cause when I left work on Thursday (October 28, 2010) and went out to start my car, something interesting happened. To me, it made an attrocious noise and wouldn't start. That = bad. To anyone with car knowledge the sound was my engine coming apart. The tow truck guy said I had a hole in my oil pan about the size of an engine rod. A rod that should be inside my engine case and never come near my oil pan, much less puncture it. That = bad. It got towed to the dealership, but as I watched my car disappear, I knew that was it for her. My $600 car was not going to get a new $4400 engine.

So I took off work Friday and took a field trip to Decatur to a car dealership. I've been shopping and thinking and worrying about buying a new car for a while. It was having problems - not sure if the problems caused the engine blow out or of the engine problems were the source of the other issues I was having but either way, moot point now. Everyone kept asking when I was going to do it, but I was having trouble pulling the trigger. My paid for car was still running. When it stopped running, it was very easy to walk into the dealership and sign my life away.

But, drama aside, I have a new SUV!
Isn't she pretty? She's a sparkly dark blue with silver pinstriping and gray interior. She doesn't have any bells and whistles, but she has everything I wanted and didn't have in my other car - power windows, cruise control, more horsepower, more cargo room, and an auxillary jack for my iPhone. Now that I've finally done it, I'm very relieved to have reliable transportation. At least until the first payment is due...

What have you been procrastinating about? Ever had fate push you to finally make a decision?

PS. Be sure to stop in Monday because we're having the Playground's 5th birthday celebration! Come party with us!

Loving you new car and don't you love that 'New Car Smell'? Wish it could stay forever.
I got a new car last year that I had been dreaming of, a re aud convertible. It was perfect until I kerbed one of the wheels, then the next one, then the next one - you get the picture!
Never mind, cars are for driving, not for sitting and looking pretty, but right now I'm still admiring your view!

Beautiful Car!!! Do we get a ride in it? Congratulations on getting a new car!

I am the consummate procrastinator. You name it and I will put it aside to do more fun things. Until...someone is yelling at me!

I get to ride in tomorrow!! Can't wait to see it. I promise to wipe my feet and not eat or drink in the car.

I like to think procrastination is the key to prolonging life. Can't remember who the quote is from, but it's better than the "Procrasintation is like mast*&^%$*@n; in the end you're just screwing yourself."

Happy new car!

Yay!

My little bug is getting there, too. But it's hard to commit to a new car when I have one -- totally paid for -- that works. Even if it is a little quirky. I'm also holding out as long as I can because I know I'll have to get something bigger than a Bug next time. I can't haul AC and her friends and all their stuff in a Bug. (Sigh, I hauled an infant and all her stuff in a Bug, only to be foiled by having only two seatbelts in the back now... sigh)

Love your new car! Beautiful color. I'm procrastinating on planning our spring break trip. But I had a good reason: writing and tweaking my full MS for a request.

That goes out the door today. Whew. Then I can procrastinate for another reason.

:-)

Oooh, that is nice SP! My SUV was almost 14 yrs old when I broke down and finally bought a new car. New car payments vs. being stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. The car payments won.

Procrastination? Oh yes, I'm great at it. Why do something ahead of time when you can stress out by waiting till the last minute! :-D

Good timing for a post about cars. My college daughter's car starting making a horrible noise = bad. Something in the engine was wrong. We gave her my 1993 (yes) honda and while stopping to get gas a tow truck backed into her. They wanted to total my car but it was just the hood and the light so it's getting fixed. We had just put 1,200 into it! My son-in-law last month totaled the car we gave my daughter - my husband took her old one so now we are stuck with two old cars and really can't afford any new ones or used ones even. cars - can't live with them and can't live without them - or is that men - hah same thing.

I drove my last car for 10 years and hope to do the same with this one. I got it 5 years ago, so hopefully it will be another 5 before I have to worry about a car payment. Something wonderful about driving a paid for car...even when it doesn't have many bells and whistles.

Congrats on your new pretty SUV!

Yes, your new SUV is indeed very striking! I love its dark blue color with silver pin striping. I think you made a good purchase. Enjoy your new SUV! And don’t forget to have it regularly checked for maintenance.
