The Playlist of My Life

Music has always been an important part of my life, and when I listen to music, I especially pay attention to the lyrics. So when I saw Playlist on someone else's blog I decided to do a short list that would be appropos for my life today.

Track 1: Hot, Hot, Hot by Buster Poindexter

It's a bazillion degrees outside and the humidity is like a gazillion percent.

In other words, it's summer in Alabama, but it's more like August than our usual June. What's up with that, Mother Nature? Are you going to give us another drought summer? What's the weather like where you are? Are you hot, hot, hot? Or maybe you're in a part of the country that's wet, wet, wet.

Track 2: Hot Stuff by Donna Summer

The DH and I were young and mostly childless during the disco era and have danced our share of dances under the sparkling disco ball. I especially love the music of Donna Summer and "Hot Stuff" is what I am right now. And I don't mean in any sort of sexy-outfit-with-high-heels way either. It's not simply a matter of the temperature and humidity; I stopped taking my hormone pills about two weeks ago (yeah, TMI, but guess what? One of these days YOUR ovaries will stop producing estrogen and you'll be making these decisions too. ;-) ) and I can't decide if (1) I'm really having hot flashes, (2) I'm sick or (3) if it's just my reaction to the ninety-degree weather. I'm hoping for #3.

Track 3: Taking Care of Business by Bachman-Turner Overdrive

I wake up every morning to my alarm clock's warning and instead of taking the 8:15 into the city, I head first to the kitchen for a cup of hot tea and then hit my office to check my calendar for the day. Lately it's been filled with stuff like haircuts, family doctor appointment, mammogram appointment, take the DH to his oral surgery, go to exercise, take the DH to the airport, pick up the tiller from the shop, eye doctor appointment, go exercise again, go back to pick up my new prescription sunglasses (and they are SO cool!), exercise some more, pick the DH up at the airport, shop for groceries, feel like I've been robbed when I put gas in my car, attend Homeowners' Association meeting and weasel my way out of being the newsletter editor (don't ever let them know you're a writer because they'll use it against you).

Between all the "stuff" and the heat (internal and external), I just haven't been in the mood to do much of anything but stretch out on the couch, turn the ceiling fan to high, sip a tall glass of sweet iced tea and either read, watch TV or nap. On the plus side, I've read some good books. On the down side, I've written absolutely zip since about this time last month. I re-did the outline for a story over the weekend and that's as far as I got. Right now I could care less if Undercover Mom helps the FBI or not.

What songs would be on the playlist of your life now?

P.S. Be sure to come back tomorrow when Natalie Anderson, another of Kimberly's new friends from Mills & Boon, visits to guest blog.

Har! I can't think enough to put together a playlist, but I did have Girl download a new ringtone for me yesterday that says it all -- Whipping Post by The Allman Bros.:)

Currently for the last few weeks my playlists have been a bit dark:

Voodoo by Godsmack; because it reminds of me of hot summer nights and dark deeds...(what am I saying; its darn hot-sweltering!)

Enter the Sandman by Metallica-I'm not getting much sleep and I've been anxious. Those dratted monsters under the bed (and in my head...its the self critic you know).

Rockstar by Nickelback; don't we all want to be one? It's that perception of how it will be when you make it..LOL *sigh* the dreams we have.

Ok; so this isn't necessarily positive stuff (ha!) Check with me next week; my play list changes on a daily basis...:)

Oooh, I love Mary's songs. Enter the Sandman is one of my favs ever! And it applies because I don't sleep well when I'm heavy on a writing kick.

At the moment, my playlist also involves a lot of flamenco. Why? Hot Spanish guy to write about.

The hot songs apply too, because it's summer in Alabama.

Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. Because, well, life is crazy sometimes.

Under Pressure by Queen & David Bowie. Because I'm feeling the pressure.

Yes, I am with you here in AL, too freaking hot and humid!!!!!!!!! I was off my hormone pills for a week and it was getting ugly - I need my pills. I really don't have a playlist per say but I do listen to a station that plays 70's music. I am trying to stay sane while getting my home ready to put on the market and working flex time M - Th. And talk about being robbed, driving 40 miles round trip daily to work and then going to put gas in your tank is just so wrong.

Hmm...soundtrack of my life...

"Hanging by a Moment" by Lifehouse. I have a couple promising projects in limbo right now and I am on pins and needles waiting. Here's to hoping the editors want to "Take a Chance on Me" by ABBA instead of "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen.

"Wonderwall" by Oasis. This has no real bearing on anything aside from the fact that I'm still thinking about going to my reunion and this song WAS my 11th grade year. Loved it.

And lastly, Still Alive by GLaDOS. No matter what I do, I can't get that music box melody out of my head. It's making me crazy. I launched full force into a Mariah Carey song at Home Depot last night in the hopes of putting ANYTHING in my head but that song (I hate MC BTW). Worked for about 10 minutes.

Where have the Soapbox Queens gone, btw?

I'm in Soapbox Queen withdrawal too, Lynn. The server that handled their site went down (or something like that). They have the site back up but it's hit and miss. I was just able to read today's post but unable to comment. I know they have their web guy working on it.

There's this song that's been playing on country radio - not sure of the title or artist - but the lyrics go, I'm grateful for the weekend but 2 days in heaven just ain't gonna do. The rest of the song is about how they need more time together and he sings it in this low, sexy, bedroom voice. Sigh.

I honestly can't think of anything else. I either have Hannah Montana, Taylor Swift or Sugarland running through my head lately but none of them really say anything about my life.

I'm so pitiful. My mom gave me her ipod months ago and I haven't even plugged it in. I keep thinking I need to but...

Still Alive is technically by Jonathan Coulton, but I really just came here to make sure it was on your list, SP.

It is, of course, on my list. As is "The Ballad of Serenity" by Joss Whedon and Sonny Rhodes.

If I had to choose a song that anyone reading this has actually ever heard of before... I guess it would be "Crazy" by Seal.

Instigator, the song is question is "Just Got Started Lovin' You" by James Otto.

Oooh, you got me thinking this morning. I love music! Let's see:

Sunburn by Fuel- due to the nice burn I got from helping my hubby paint the house for the last 3 days!

Can't Get You Off My Mind by Lenny Kravitz -characters are begging and pleading for me to sit my butt in the chair and start their story!

Get Me Bodied by Beyonce and Destiny's Child - got to get back to the gym...body clutter is starting to jiggle!

That's it, PM! Thanks :-)
I might actually pull out the ipod tonight and download that one.

Dear PM (aka my First Born),

Don't look on it as "Hot Flashes"; just call it "Power Surges". It is just a matter of "living with it". Been there, done that! By the way, what's wrong with Gershwin?

Love ya, Your Mother

Hmmm... still listening to lots of Bon Jovi's Long Highway. Feels Like Tonight by Daughtry. Gotta go my own way from the High School Musical 2 soundtrack.

I use music as an escape, so none ofit applies to my life, just the stories I'm working on at the moment.

I'm loving Pandora.com that maryf told me about. I can't listen to music while I write, but i can while I work. I've created my own stations according to the mood I'm in. Fun!

Oh, the songs I would sing if my head weren't so full of s..... Sorry, having a moment.

Pocket Full of Sunshine (Take Me Away) by Natasha Bedingfield. I need to be taken to a higher place. Maybe these new meds will do it.

Sexy Can I by Ray J feat Yung Berg, is my new ringtone. A girl can hope she's still sexy, right?
