The Oscars

The Oscar nominations were announced earlier this week. Is it sad to admit the only movies I've seen were in the Best Animation category? I want to see several of them...I just can't seem to find the time to get to the theater. I'm so behind on my movie watching.

Every year I promise myself that I'm going to watch all of the best picture nominees before the ceremony. I don't think I've managed it a single time. Since they've upped it to 10 nominees I think my chances of succeeding at that goal have dropped dramatically.

I do want to see The King's Speech. I've heard it's fantastic from several people. Black Swan interests me just because it looks like one of those movies that will bend my mind...and I've always like Natalie Portman. Not to mention ballet. I haven't seen Social Network. I know, blasphemy. I mean, I'm on Facebook, but I'm not sure I really care about the history of it. Everyone's told me the story is actually very good. I can't get over the fact that it's a movie about very intelligent, nerdy college students. I'm well past that stage in life so it doesn't really interest me.

Inception looked interesting. I've even rented it a couple times...haven't managed to watch it though. I'm not a western fan but I've heard the little girl in True Grit is amazing. Not sure I can get over the dusty background and cowboy hats. 127 hours looks gut wrenching. I cried when I heard about the real story behind this movie. I'm not sure I could take a couple hours of it on the big screen. Toy Story 3 was playing in the same room while I worked...does that count? The other movies I haven't really heard of so can't form an opinion, although I do know that Winter's Bone is adapted from a book.

Have you seen any of the Oscar nominees? Did you like them? Any I should bend over backwards to see?

I have seen True Grit, Toy Story 3, and The King's Speech. I want to see The Black Swan and Social Networking, though it's hard to imagine them surpassing The King's Speech. It was a wonderful story and, let's face it, Colin Firth. Well, could it get any better? I also have loved Helena Bonham Carter ever since seeing her in Lady Jane Grey and A Room With a View years ago.

I've only seen The King's Speech. It's a fabulous movie. I saw the original True Grit and I'd love to see the new one. I love Jeff Bridges. I'd like to see Social Networking too. And Toy Story 3. It just hasn't been a big movie year for me. I just need to make the effort to go. That's what I did for The King's Speech.

I'd like to see several, but really... when? Given my weekends have been hijacked, I'll probably see them at the Blockbuster kiosk in a year. I'd like to see The King's Speech. I have seen Inception. It is interesting, confusing and leaves you with more questions than answers.

I don't care how good Jeff Bridges is -- he is no John Wayne; therefor True Grit is out!

I haven't seen anything lately but the new Fockers movie that put me to sleep. My daughter and son-in-law loved The Black Swan and I've heard only good things about The King's Speech and True Grit and the Social Network.

Hm, of that list, I've seen one. That's sad. I must get a life one day...

I haven't seen any of them except Toy Story 3, I must confess. I've seen several kids movies this year but not much for myself. The hubby went to see Tron. I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of awards shows. I just like to watch the highlights later on E!. ;)

PM's Mom -- I have wonderful memories of watching John Wayne movies as a teenager, and have to admit it has made me look askance at the remake. Don't know if I can go there.

There is a theater in town that is all dollar movies now. They get the movies late and they play for a long time, which is how I've been able to take the kids on a shoe string budget. We all three saw that owl cartoon for less than $10, and that was with popcorn. If I can simply find a day the hubby is off work and can stay with the kids, I could go see a movie there.

Maybe I'll start using that as one of my rewards. :)
