I Don't Care What Day It Is, Don't Touch Me

At one point, I went through my calendar at work and filled it with stupid and lesser known holidays. Partially to amuse myself and partially to annoy others when I announce its Penguin Awarenes Day. Didn't know there was a Penguin Awareness Day? Yep. It was Wednesday, actually. And today is National Hugging Day, amongst other things.

Apparently there are so many of these silly days, they can't limit each day to just one thing. So today, in addition to being National Hugging Day, its also International Fetish Day (hello!!). This week is Healthy Weight Week, National Fresh Squeezed Juice Week, and January itself is about 30 different kinds of months including my favorites: National Mail Order Gardening Month and National Polka Music Month.

There are many sources online, but the one I found here is pretty comprehensive. I apologize in advance for the stupid animations.

You all are the only people I'm going to tell about National Hugging Day. I don't want anyone to have an excuse to touch me if I don't want them to. My 'hugging permitted' list is quite short.

So, anything interesting fall on your birthday or anniversary? My birthday is National Accountant's Day. (woo hoo!) Share your favorite weird holidays! Personally, I'm looking forward to September 14th - National Cream Filled Doughnut Day and National Procrastination Week in March. I always plan to celebrate it, but put it off. :)

My birthday is also National Farm Animals Day, which fits right in with all the farm animal fun we have here on the Playground. It's also Safety Pin Day among other things.

My birthday is at the end of the Masters Golf Tournament, National Networking Week and Hate Week.

I don't have an anniversary any more, but when I did, it was Cinco de Mayo. It's also International Midwives' Day, National Day of Prayer, National Day of Reason and Totally Chipotle Day.

The one I had to look up was Martin Z. Mollusk Day. If a hermit crab in Ocean City, New Jersey, sees its shadow that day, which is always the first Thursday in May, summer will come one week early.

After the winter we've had, go Martin!

So, November is Historic Bridge Awareness month. You don't have to appreciate them or anything, just be aware of historic bridges. (Do they bite or something?)

My question: who decides? Who makes it official? Can I declare a Kimberly Lang Appreciation month? (I wish to be appreciated, not just have people be aware of me.)

My birthday is Embrace Your Geekness Day and Gruntled Workers Day. I'm not entirely sure what that says about me... Although, I suppose we could celebrate by buying some new electronics and playing computer games all day?

July is also Cell Phone Courtesy Month. I'm behind this one wholeheartedly. Oh, and it's Mango and Melon Month and National Grilling Month. I see a backyard barbeque in our future.

Barbeque, yum!

June is Audio Book Appreciation month (quite appropriate, I thought), Effective Communications month, and Potty Training month (thank God that's behind me), among many other things. The funniest to me? It is both National GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, trangender) month AND National Celebacy month. Shouldn't those cancel each other out?

My birthday falls in both World Menopause week and Superman week. :)

My birthday is National Abused Womens and Childrens Day, Crowded Nest Awareness Day (huh?), Loving Day (fight against racial prejudice), Orthodox Pentecost, Rageddy Ann and Andy Day, and World Wind Day. Pretty serious stuff there. I'm a little concerned about that. :)

I was born on Valentine's Day. :-) February 14 is also the beginning of National Condom Week.

And no, National GLBT Week and National Celebacy week do not cancel each other out. One is about sexual orientation and the other is about the sex act itself. Big difference. My son is gay and unlike what many people think, that does not equate with promiscuity.

Jeannie, I'm sure Angel didn't mean it like that. Its just odd to have it be a month that celebrates sexual diversity and at the same time, a month that suppresses any sexuality altogether. I think we're all very aware that promiscuity has nothing to do with orientation. I know plenty of straight people who get around and gay people who are in long term committed relationships. And vice versa.

PC, I think you have to petition the government somehow to get a day or month. Not sure what office, exactly. Maybe write to your congressman. :)

My birthday is New Year's eve, Dec. 31st. It tends to get overlooked and not celebrated but then after the New Year my hubby or mom will say, "Oh, Yeah! It was your birthday. Happy Birthday!" Better late than never, I always say.

Ok I am laughing at all the funny times that you guys mentioned your birthdays fall on. Not to hurt anyone's feelings but I never realized that so many things were celebrated here. I guess I am behind the times.

One time my brother put an announcement in the paper about my birthday. That was embarassing!

My sister is a CPA so I'll have to remember to send her a card for that day.

Let's write our congressman and request Writing Playground Week!
