Fantasy Vacation

Summer is winding its way to an end and I’m winding up for a new release this week! Both of these had me thinking… My book, RIDING THE WAVES, opens with my heroine’s fantasy vacation. Well, for her it’s more living out a boy toy fantasy while ON vacation, but my thoughts turned more to the whole vacation itself dream.

There are as many versions of fantasy vacations as there are vacationers. I know people who’d kill for a vacation in Europe, others whose idea of a great time is kayaking and camping. Both sound fun, but also sound like work. Educational, healthy, exciting. But not quite my version of vacation fantasy. My kids adore Disneyland for vacation, but as much as I love the Mouse, spending the day with a few thousand strangers waiting in line to for an elevator to take a dive isn’t quite my idea of relaxation. And road trips? Oh no, that’s more nightmare than fantasy in my book!

So then what is my fantasy vacation? It all revolves around pure indulgence. A warm beach is preferable, but I’d take a nice lakeside resort in a pinch. Just as long as there is water. A great bar, with a cute bartender who flirts just a little, and keeps my margarita glass topped off with a deliciously frothy, perfect margarita. A fabulous spa would be available, with a masseuse with hands like magic. Romantic restaurants with delicious –and shockingly low-calorie—meals, soft music playing in the background. And a hotel suite filled with sensual pleasure (not that kind!) Silk sheets, velvet pillows and the scent of flowers wafting in from the French doors leading to a balcony that overlooks the water.

Yep. That’s my fantasy. Pure relaxing indulgence.

Have I been able to live out that fantasy yet? Nope. But it’s on my dream list now and I’m hoping to make it a reality someday soon.

How about you? What is your fantasy vacation? And have you taken it yet? Did you get to have a vacation this summer and how was it?

Ooh, one of my most favorite topics...running away from home. :-) Be sure to comment because Tawny is giving away a copy of her newest release RIDING THE WAVES to one lucky commenter. Thanks for visiting with us, Tawny!

Hi Tawny,
Congrats on the new release. I haven't been on a road trip in so long. I didn't go on a vacation this summer. I would love to go on a Mediterranean cruise some day.

Oooh, Jane. A Mediterranean cruise sounds so decadent and indulgently romantic. I love that idea.

Thanks for the congrats :-) I wish I could celebrate with a cruise like you mentioned. Of course, on my dream cruise, those eight meals a day they serve? They'd make us LOSE weight LOL

My dream vacation has always been an African safari. I love animals and would really like to see them in their natural habitat. However, at the moment I'd settle for anywhere that I can sleep late and do nothing for at least 4 days in a row.

congrats on your new release. I would love to take a cruise to the Bahamas. All that beautiful water and sand.

Oooh, Kira - my daughter would love that vacation, too. She's a huge fan of all things animal. Now me, on the other hand, I'm a bigger fan of your other idea :-) Sleeping late would be so lovely!! Anything over 7 hours sounds like a dream LOL

Hi Kimmy :-)

That sounds gorgoeus! My mother did a similar cruise years back and I seriously drooled over the picture alone - and only a couple of them had hunky guys in bathing suits!!!

I have always wanted to go to Alaska and travel through out the state on their great train system.

Maybe my fantasy has something to do with the fact that men outnumber women there something like 11 to 1. I like those odds pretty well!!

Congratulations on your new release!

Congratulations on your new release! Can't wait to read it!

My dream vacation is similar to yours - a beach and a margarita, although in a pinch, a beer will do. Simply lying in a beach chair, listening to the ocean and doing nothing is the best!

I'd love to go to England and Scotland again. But those are big time vacations that take a lot of planning and effort. :)

My ideal vacation would be a quick 4 day hop to different places in the US that I've always wanted to visit--sleep in a B&B, explore, eat the local food, and just wander through the area to get a really good feel of the atmosphere. I've always wanted to see Charleston, Savannah, Maine, the Rockies, Seattle, Vancouver, San Francisco.

Thanks for joining us again today, Tawny!

I lived in Germany back in the late 70's and I'd love to go back to Europe and be able to enjoy it as a mature adult with a little more money. Give me a month and I'll be a happy little traveler. I visited with a friend two days ago who took a Mediterranean cruise last year and I was just green with envy. They flew to Rome, sailed from the port close by and visited all the most famous cities in Italy as well as going to Barcelona and other places I've forgotten.

I'm heading to the beach for the Labor Day weekend to visit a friend who moved there last spring. There will be 5 of us and we plan on a weekend of doing NOTHING but relaxing on the beach or by the pool. And eating. ::grin:: You have to eat seafood when you go to the beach.

Congrats on the release and welcome back to the Playground!

Hi Tawny!
The new book looks fantastic! Can't wait to read it. I have tons of places I would love to see at some point in my life. Cuba(Thats where my family is from), Ireland, Paris, Africa, Figi, Australia, Greece, Spain, the list goes on and on and on, lol! But my ultimate fantasy vacation would be on a tropical beach with my hubby and no kids, lol! A pina colada and the sun. Just relaxing and enjoying one on one time with my hubby. Maybe in a few years for our 15th anniversary we can make it happen! Have a wonderful day!!

Hi Tawny. Congrats on the new release. We have just bought a campervan (a US import no less - Winnebago. And we love it!) If I had the time (which I don't) I would love to take our "Winnie" over to France and Spain and over winter there. *Sigh* - maybe one day.....Caroline x

My fantasy vacation is to Austrailia. I haven't got there yet.
This year I had a staycation. I spent as much time as I could outside.

Tawny, congratulations on your latest release. We take big vacations about every other year. Although the boys get to see baseball parks of America I usually squeeze in one big thing for me.

A few years back we went to Texas. Drove there in 1 1/2 days. The guys got to see the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers, I got to spend the day at the Houston Space Center. I was enthralled, to say the least. 8 hours surrounded by space stuff and MISSION CONTROL. I didn't ever want to leave.

Love your cover, Tawny! Congratulations on your latest release. ;)

I've lived all over the world and have seen some great things. I'd like to back to England, and visit Scotland and Ireland. Australia and New Zealand would be great fun. But I really love being on the beach, listening to the ocean, and feeling the breeze caress my skin. There is something surreal about the ocean. At once, I feel insignificant and yet, an intrigal part of a much bigger picture.

Welcome back to the Playground Tawny,
Congratulations on your new release. I generally don't take a vacation more like a staycation for me. That would include being in my pjs all day, reading, napping, eating, reading, watching a little tv and having no guilt while doing any of these things. I don't necessarily have to go anywhere, as long as I am not putting on my makeup and work clothes, I'm good.

Oh wow, Stephanie. You piqued my interest with the train, but those men odds? SWEEEET!!!! Now that's a vacation worth indulging in *g*

Thanks so much, Cheryl :-)

We can get adjoining beach chairs and share a cabana boy, huh?

Angel, Scotland does sound like it was a wonderful trip. But like you, I love B&B's. We've done a few weekend getaways. The wine country is always gorgeous, and I'm hoping for a weekend in Carmel this year, too.

The wandering and appreciating the locale just adds more to the indulgent fun, doesn't it.

And thanks to all of you for having me back on the Playground :-) You're all so great to hang out with!

Living in Germany had to be so wonderful. My husband lived there for 2 years, way back in the day and said it was a beautiful country.

I think I'm jealous of your friend, too. OMG what an exquisite vacation.

And now that I hear about your Labor Day plans, I'm jealous of you, too :-D It sounds like you'll have a great time!!

Tawny Weber said...

Alina- That sounds like such an awesome 15th anniversary trip. Decadent, romantic and very very sexy.

Your dream list sounds so great, too! I hope you get to see all of those wonderful places.

I've heard such great things about Key West! It sounds like you had a great time, Denise! And Hawaii... I've always heard such wonderful things about the islands.

Tawny Weber said...

Thanks, Caroline :-) I'm really excited about RIDING THE WAVES release.

WOW on the camping trips. My Father In Law has a camper and travels ALL over - he loves the freedom of it.

Tawny Weber said...

Chey, Australia is so romantic and lovely - I'd adore visiting there sometime, too. I'm hoping to get to the Romance Writers of Australia conference at some point - some of my fave authors are in that area :-)

It sounds like you had a wonderful stacation :-)

Hi Jill :-D

What a great vacation memory. Its so nice when a family has similar interests and can really enjoy trips like that. But - OMG you drove to Texas in a day and a half? Were you driving non-stop??? Yikes :-D I'm so not a cartrip kind of gal if I have a choice.

Tawny Weber said...

Ooooh, I wish I could say I've never been on a road trip LOL. I was on one today, actually. Its definitely not on my list of favorite things to do.

I'd vote for a mountain vacation instead, for sure :-D

Tawny Weber said...

Thanks so much, Katherine :-) I'm so pleased with the wonderful covers I've gotten for my Blazes. Harlequin's art dept definitely has a handle on what makes a sexy cover.

Living all over the world must give you such amazing memories and connections with different places. I totally agree with you about the ocean - the feeling is huge and humbling.

Hi, Tawny! I love vacations with my family, but a dream vacation would be just off with my husband and a good chunk of my TBR ;) Some place beautiful, not too hot, and with not a whole lot to do but relax!
