Theater Thursday

It's sort of a tradition in our family to go to the movies during Christmas break. I think it began when my mother had 4 kids home from school for 3 weeks and needed a couple of hours to catch up on her sleep...in the dark theater. However, I've carried on the tradition, loosely though it might be.

This year I managed to fit 2 shows into the week I took off of work - one with Zilla and one with the girls, my sister, BIL and their 2 boys. I bet you can't guess which one I preferred. :-)

Zilla and I took a date night and went to see Sherlock Holmes. This is an unusual occurrence. Not the date night, but that we could both agree on which movie we actually wanted to see. Usually one of us just ends up saying, "I'll go see it but only because you want to." This is how he drags me to shoot 'em up films and I finagle my way into chick flicks. However, this one has something for everyone. Action, adventure, gun shots, a mystery, a bad guy, a beautiful woman and a romantic history that threw a monkey wrench into everything. Overall, I'd have to say it was good. Not my absolutely favorite but well worth the money we spent to go see it. And if you can find a movie theater near you that has a 21 and over only section, a bar and allows you to take an appletini in to watch...I say definitely go see it. Besides, Robert Downey Jr. is half naked at one point...need I say more?

The second movie I caught was Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squekuel. It was...cute. The girls certainly liked it, although I wasn't surprised since they've practically worn out the DVD of the first one. The music was current so at least I liked the songs that they were singing. My five year old nephew was spell bound. I'll admit that I didn't go into this movie expecting an advanced script and intellectually stimulating dialogue. For what it is, it was...cute. Would I see it again? Only if the girls guilt tripped me into it. Would I want to scratch my eyeballs out while we were there? No.

I'm not sure I'm going to be making it to any more movies in the next month. As much as I'd love to see the Blindside - and, yes, I still haven't made it to that one - I expect to be snowed under...possibly literally.

Did you see any movies over the holidays? Are there any coming up that you're looking forward to?

The previews of Sherlock Holmes looked interesting so I may venture out to see it.

#2 son and I finally saw "The Blind Side" between Christmas and New Year's and it is fabuloso! Sandra Bullock rocks in this true story. #2 son and I agreed it was well worth the price of admission, and Bullock may score an Oscar nomination for the role.

We saw Sherlock Holmes on Christmas Day. Loved it. We saw Avatar a few days later. Loved it, too. I am not a fussy movie goer. I only want to be entertained and I don't want to think too much, either.

Snow day... woohoo!! If only I didn't have to get up this morning to drive ... but at least I get three hours of writing in before the chicklet gets home.

I saw The Blind Side, which was practically a religious experience, and Avatar, which I liked much better than I expected. I'd even happily watch it again.

I would like to see Sherlock Holmes and It's Complicated. I love Meryl Streep.

I have managed to not see anything since New Moon came out. Christmas break was a bust. I wanted to see lots of things. Actually saw none. But, I did get this handy dandy gift card to the movie theater for Christmas, so I'll be on it, shortly.

I haven't been to a movie in ages... Netflix is my friend.

Although, I do know a lot of folks who got gift cards to the local theater for Christmas -- maybe they'll force me to go see something.

Unfortunately, I used our gift cards to see Alvin and the Chipmunks. My kids loved it. I was bored. No surprise there.

That's the first movie I've gotten to see in a while. I didn't even make it to the theater to see New Moon. But the hubby and I have a date planned this weekend (barring snow on the roads) to see Daybreakers. Can't wait!

He also just bought District 9, which we saw in theaters. If you like SciFi, this movie was thoroughly different and really enjoyable!

Hubby and I went on a movie binge during the break! We saw "Avatar" in 3D. And PC could have been there since we saw her DG there -- but he said she didn't want to go. PC, you missed a GREAT movie!

We also saw "Sherlock Holmes," "Up in the Air," and "It's Complicated." Enjoyed them all. But "It's Complicated" was an absolute howl fest. Everyone in the audience was laughing so hard. It was a great time. Definitely a keeper when it comes out on DVD (as is "Avatar").

Didn't watch any new movies over the holidays but I kept the Lifetime and Hallmark channel on constantly. Last week I watched Pride and Prejudice back to back. : )
I'm a stay at home kinda gal so I'll just wait until they come on PayPreview. Sherlock Holmes sounds like one I would like to see. Love RDJ!
Oh, and I want to see Hangover. Heard it was hilarious.

We don't go to the movies, we did rent a few movies though! The New Star trek, Orphan, and Wolverine. They were all good!

I loved Avatar in 3D and hope to go back and see it in IMAX. I usually love SciFi but District 9 didn't do it for me for some reason.

I didn't see any movies during the holidays, but heard that Up in the Air and Avatar were great.
