Party Time: Finding Her Rhythm Release Week

Half of the Children are gone to the Romantic Times Book Lovers' Convention this week. Since they're partying without us, I thought we'd have a little party while they're gone!

This week I'm celebrating the release of my new ebook, Finding Her Rhythm! My rock star hero is perfect for a good time (in more ways than one)!

As much as he loves the stage, Michael Korvello's favorite kind of party is one-on-one with his new flame, Taylor Jemison. Not your average groupie, Taylor is curvy, quiet -- and the new nanny for Michael's teenage children. Boy, is her life about to change! But first, Michael must find out the truth about Taylor's past, and protect her from an ex bent on taking her back, even if he has to tear Michael's family apart to have her.

Strong, protective, and sexy as hell! I'd party with Michael anytime! If you could party (or even just hang out) with any romance hero today, which one would you choose and why?

Pigs Do Fly

You all have no idea how long I've waited to write this post. How many times I imagined how The Call would go. How I would react. Who I'd call. And yet, in my wildest imaginings, it never went down anything like last Tuesday.

We will start with some backstory. I'd been working closely with Shana Smith at Harlequin Desire. I'd gotten good feedback. Things were going well despite the first book not working out and having to start over. But I was so close. Agonizingly close. But I wouldn't let myself believe it until I heard the words. I dream big, but I'm not one to get my hopes up and be disappointed. At the same time, I was doing everything in my power to seal the deal. I wrote a new book from scratch in 3 weeks. I revised it in a week. I wanted to do everything I could to sell before conference.

After I finished revisions, I mailed the book, nauseated. Maybe I hadn't spent enough time on it. What if I'd worked too fast and blew it? Either way it was too late. I started work on another book and worried about my upcoming vacation. DB's niece was graduating high school and his brother was retiring from the Navy after 25 years. We were flying to Baltimore for a few days with his parents. I figured it would be a while since Shana had to read it, the senior editor had to read it and whatever magical editorial mojo had to happen. The office was closing for a couple holidays. No big deal. I tried to forget it was even out there and headed to the airport with my family.

I was none too pleased to find out that our flight was 4 hours delayed when we reached the gate. We'd arrived early, so I was due for at least 5 hours in the airport with DB and his parents. While gearing up for a game of spider solitaire on my iPhone, a NYC number called. I figured it was a telemarketer. I'd gotten a lot of those calls lately. But what else did I have to do? So I answered. Not once did it register until I heard the woman introduce herself as Shana Smith. Not really even then. I figured she was calling about her guest blog or something. It could possibly be that.

Then she said she had great news and wanted to buy my book. This was the point in time where the universe slowed to a crawl. I was stunned. I didn't know what to say or do. I was dumbstruck. I couldn't yell or cry. Not only was it not cool, I was in an airport terminal and didn't want security called on me. I think my first words were "oh my god, I'm in the airport." That was followed by a lot of 'wow' and 'that's great' while she talked about contracts and revisions. I think she knew not to say too much given I was reduced to muttering those two phrases over and over. I wrote things down on the back of my boarding pass so I wouldn't forget. I tried to think of intelligent questions and failed. I was a spacey mess. But the message came across - my first book was tentatively scheduled for spring 2012.

After about 10 minutes, I hung up and turned to DB. He smiled and hugged me, having heard my stupid rambling and knew what had happened. I sat back in my chair for a good 15 minutes. I knew I needed to tell people but I wasn't ready yet. I needed to come to terms. It just didn't seem real. Finally I told my inlaws, who were very pleased for me, but really didn't understand what a big deal it was. So I called my Mom and cried. Then I called each of the Playfriends and squeed. I had to leave a message for PM because she was at the doctor. Then I called the Mavens and a couple others. I ended up sitting on the floor in the airport near an outlet so I could charge my phone while continuing to call everyone who had supported me and kept me writing when I wanted to stop. They deserved to hear right away. Then I texted a slew of people. Posted it on Twitter and Facebook, and went back to waiting for my flight.

Of course, my call story had to be weird! It all went down in an airport. I couldn't leave, couldn't fully celebrate. I was in a damn airport. The bottle of champagne I've neurotically kept on hand for just this occasion was in my fridge at home. And I'm at the airport. Then I was in Baltimore, with more family celebrating other people's big life events. Family I love, but still people who don't get it, really. No Playfriends or HOD people to dance around and squeal with. I was trapped in a LaQuinta Inn with nothing but my iPhone to connect me to the people that understand.

But now, now I am home! And I'm ready to celebrate with my peeps. Grab some cyber champagne and a cupcake! I've sold my first book! Check the news because pigs are flying around the world this week.

PS. The picture at the bottom is me in my "sale" shirt. I bought it 3 years ago at a RWA conference and put it in the closet. I hadn't even let myself try it on in all that time. On Tuesday, I pulled it out of the closet and wore it. It fit, thank goodness! :)

PSS. Kira is blogging over at the Blaze Author's blog today. Pop on over and say hi.

Everybody dance now

The Playfriends' hotel room looks like a war zone. There are clothes, shoes, make-up items and heaven knows what else strewn about the room.

But we're gonna PARTY!

Film at 11:00. Well, not. What happens at the party stays at the party.

We DO have lots of good books to bring home.

Launch Party!

Oooh, I’ve been waiting for this day, and now the giddiness is practically paralyzing me as all I can do is squee at the oddest moments.

THE SECRET MISTRESS ARRANGEMENT is finally on a bookstore shelf near you!

While it’s been exciting to know the book was out in the UK and Australia, NOTHING beats going to your local bookstore and seeing your name on a real book.

I love this book, of course. It’s my first-born. But it seems a few other folks liked it as well, and that is really exciting! Romantic Times gave it 4-stars and said, “This enjoyable tale … treats readers to all the emotions, and all the highs and lows, that love entails." The fab Marilyn Shoemaker of Marilyn’s Romance Reviews made my day when she called it “magnificent” and said I crafted a “beautiful and romantic love story” (and gave me five stars on Amazon!). Then, when I debuted at #9 on the Waldenbooks Bestseller list for my first week, the giddiness knew no bounds at all. (Now it's #8! Squee!)

So let’s launch this baby properly!

And, my overseas friends, we’re launching my second book, THE MILLIONAIRE’S MISBEHAVING MISTRESS, today as well! I’m out in two countries at once.If I were any more excited, I’d have to split into two pieces to hold it. (TMMM will be an October release in the US.)

Cue the cabana boys! Rev up the chocolate fountain and jump right in!I’m giving away copies of both books today (although the winner of THE MILLIONAIRE’S MISBEHAVING MISTRESS will have to wait for a copy until I get my author copies in.)

Grab a drink and cut a rug, then be sure to head over to the Soapbox Queens where I’m reigning as Queen For A Day (and get another chance to win)! (Edited to add -- I'm also up on the I (Heart) Presents blog today. Please stop by!)

SQUEEE!!!

An Amazing Moment

I’ve pre-empted Instigator’s blog today, because I couldn’t wait until Monday to share my good news. Yesterday, I was one of the lucky authors to receive a call telling me my manuscript is a finalist in the Contemporary Series Romance category in the Golden Heart! This contest, held by Romance Writers of America, is the most prestigious unpublished romance author contest and placing in it is the best thing that’s happened in my writing career to this point.

Of course, when I got the call I’d just finished exercising, so it didn’t take much to turn my legs to jelly. Fortunately, Region 6 Director Terry McLaughlin was very understanding of my tears and inability to breathe. Honestly, it felt like being told I’d been nominated for an Academy Award. :) I was completely useless for the rest of the day, spending it in front of the computer answering emails, getting to know other finalists, and on the phone SQUEEing with my people. I even received these lovely flowers from the Playfriends and authors Rhonda Nelson and Lynn Raye Harris. Aren’t they beautiful?

My mind is whirling with ideas, plans, the revisions I need to finish, and anticipation of what will happen when I go to National Conference in July. There is no way I'd miss Nationals as a GH finalist! Luckily, author Lynn Raye Harris, who was a 2008 finalist, can fill me in on what to expect. I like to be prepared, but I don't know if I can prepare for this. :)

So in celebration of my Golden Heart final, we’re gonna have a true party in the Playhouse today! Break out the chocolate martinis and petit fours! PM, snag us some hot cabana boys. In the words of that sexy rocker, Bon Jovi:

Is there anybody out there lookin’ for a party?
Shake your money maker, baby, smoke it if you got it
We just wanna have some fun, if you don’t wanna (kiss this)
Everybody raise your hands, come on, I need a witness

We got it going on

Good Times and Good News

Our very good friend, Barbara Vey of Publishers Weekly, is celebrating the second anniversary of her successful blog, Beyond Her Book. She's having a party to end all parties, and today is "publishers/agents/publicist/editors/bloggers/librarians Day."

We are bloggers so today the Playfriends are Bartending with Barbara. Click the link above, hop on over to Barbara's blog and mosey on up to the bar for one of Problem Child's famous chocolate martinis. We're also offering a nifty bar-related prize.

And in the Good News Department, I found out Monday that I was selected as one of eleven finalists in the Special Edition Online Pitch Challenge. I sent in a one-page synopsis last week and I'll be pitching my book to Special Edition editor Susan Litman in the eHarlequin chatroom on Thursday around noon.

I'm thrilled to pieces, shocked beyond belief and have moments of sheer panic. Keep me in your thoughts tomorrow. Send good vibes my way cause I'm sure gonna need them.

Do you have any good news to share? Share it here and then join us at Barbara's party.
