New-to-me authors!

Occasionally I love to pass along information I find out about new-to-me authors. I just love finding a new author, especially on the recommendation of someone who has read and enjoyed their work. I really like it if they have several books already published I can dive into. Besides, authors are always readers, and I enjoy reading more than the average person (though I feel guilty, because I think I should be writing).

Anyway, my sister recently told me about a writer for Loose Id, Cherise Sinclair, who has some hot and steamy books out (definitely not G-rated, if you get my drift… okay, not even PG-13). I read the Master of the Shadowlands series. Hot, hot, hot!!! And oh, so good. The characterization in them is wonderful and I can’t wait to try some of her other books.

I also picked up a new-to-me author at Nationals, paranormal author Pamela Palmer. I have to say that her Feral Warriors novels are the first books I’ve bought based on a bookmark/postcard. This author sent promotional materials to the HOD Readers Luncheon. The postcards were actually pictures of her covers and they were wonderful! After visiting her website, I realized the first in her paranormal series would come out right before Nationals (she is also published in historical). So I decided to wait and get a signed copy while there. Since then, I’ve devoured books 1 and 2, and 3 comes out this week. I can’t wait!!! If you like sexy paranormals, these are great.

And though she isn’t new to me, I also picked up Rita Herron’s new Demonborn book (book 2 of the series, I loved book 1). Talk about sexy paranormals! Seeing a trend here?!? But I’ve also read Maven Linda Howard’s Burn (really good! but now I’m even more afraid to take a cruise) and several Harlequin Presents, including Lynn Raye Harris’s Spanish Magnate, Red Hot Revenge (gotta love those sexy Spaniard’s!).

So let’s talk about what you’re reading today. Got any new authors to tell me about? Current favorite books or obsessions? I need something else to distract me from my own writing. :)

I'm reading Karen Hawkins' TALK OF THE TOWN. She normally writes historical romance but this venture into contemporary romance has me giggling at the antics of a divorcee who must return to her tiny home town where her former squeeze is now the sheriff.

I just finished "Outcast" by Joan Johnston. It was the first I read by her. I'll be checking out her backlist.

Oh, PM, that sounds cute. Jane, I haven't read anything by Joan Johnston either. I'll have to check her out.

I am desperately trying to find something to read. So, I am taking your ideas. :) I think I see a book order in the near future.

I'm reading and ARC of Shadowlight by Lynn Viehl. I have several new to me authors in my TBR pile, but am at work, so I'll have to post names and books later.

Now, now, Danniele. No distractions allowed!

Current read is research. Well written and interesting, but certainly not gobble it up and swallow it whole material.

I dare not glance at my TBR pile until I get these edits done. I think I'm going through withdrawal.

Just picked up the new Angela Knight release "Guardian" from the bookstore the other day, as well as Jessica Anderson's "Skykeepers" (both part of a series). Also picked up backlist of Karen Rose (if you like thrillers, will love her!) and Nalini Singh. I did pick up a new-to-me author while there, but haven't gotten to read it yet. The author is Elizabeth Vaughan, and this book is the start of a futuristic paranormal type setting. Those are some of my favorites, so I'm hoping this will be good (it certainly sounds interesting!). And of course, "Burn" is sitting on my bedside table at the top of my TBR pile!

Yes, Gwynlyn, I'm being naughty. Reading while the other playfriends are busily working on their writing. Hangs head. I could consider it research... of a sort. :)

Liza, I'll be reviewing Shadowlight for the Playground in October. That's a cool experiment Lynn Viehl has going! I'm interested to see how it works out.

Oh, LeaAnn, I didn't realize Skykeepers was out. Have to get that.

Right now I'm rereading book 3 in the Sookie Stackhouse books. After watching last week's episode of True Blood I just had to have something to get me through to last night's episode.

I'm also working on my own stuff which makes it more difficult to read. I can't read anything sexy or contemporary while I'm writing a sexy contemporary. I am eagerly awaiting Kathryn Caskie's latest in her Seven Deadly Sins series, The Most Wicked of Sins. It comes out Sept 29th and I'm so excited!

Angel,
Can I borrow some of those books?
:-P

Oh, Angel, thanks for mentioning me! What a lovely surprise to pop over here and find that. :)

And yes, reading IS research. The hubby went out with the guys on Sat night to a cage fighting thing -- and I was feeling guilty that I didn't immediately start writing when he left. I meant to, but I started reading instead.

I never did start writing, but that's okay because we HAVE to read too.

PM, so glad you're loving that Karen Hawkins! That was the first book by her I read, but it won't be the last. I loved it!

I recently read Tessa Dare's debut, Goddess of the Hunt, and I have to say it was fabulous. The next book in her Regency-set trilogy is out in a couple of days -- and I've already pre-ordered it for my Kindle. I've been reading my line, of course, and I recently enjoyed books by Lynne Graham and Sandra Marton. I've pre-ordered Jennie Lucas for my Kindle. Her next is out on the 1st, and I just love her work.

I also read a book recently that is NOT a romance. The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It was amazing. Set in the 1960s in Jackson, MS, it's about black maids and their experiences working for white families. Absolutely fabulous.

My daughter got me started on the Twilight series and I love it. Problem is she only bought the first two books and went to the library for the next two. I know the 3rd just came out in paperback but there's another year for the last book unless I buy the hardback - arghhh.

I'm reading Sun, Sand and Seduction by Stephanie Bond, Leslie Kelly and Lori Wilde. Although the authors are not new to me, I always enjoy their work and since I did not get to the beach this summer it was the next best thing. :D

I haven't read a historical in awhile and Instigator's comment about Kathryn Caskie's latest series reminded me that I haven't read the first one yet!

I'm late, I'm late...

When I'm writing, I find it easier to reread an old favorite off my keeper shelf. ~shrugs~

But once I'm finished with this book, I'm going to check out a few of the ones mentioned here.

I'm delighted you enjoyed the Shadowlands. Thanks for the wonderful recommendation! (and I'm going to check out some of the books y'all suggested)
